Crag Connection & Clean up Aus Day
This year we wanted to invite the community to learn about Indigenous land connection, crag preservation and awareness in addition to our clean up. As our sport grows, so does the responsibility to care for the land which enables it.
When: 3rd March
Where: Bidjigal Reserve
The Shirt Design
This shirt has been made in collaboration with Indigenous Australian climbers, a way to celebrate Indigenous Australian culture and Graphic design.
On the front of the shirt, each symbols within the triangle represents a different aspect of our community.
The Yin and Yang represents the symbiotic relationship between life and death, good and the bad, the sun and moon. The Yin and Yang is the first step into appreciating all aspects of life. One cannot exist without the other.
The sun symbol represents the warmth and opportunities it provides all life around us. However it also extends beyond that. It also represents the Universe, the galaxy that we all life co-exist within.
The hand represents our physical connection to the rock. The hand is the human tool which allows us to explore craft, movement and connection. All aspects that make us human.
On top of the triangle is the universal Australian Indigenous symbol for a meeting place. This unifying symbol is a representative of our collective experience as climbers, where the crag is where we meet to connect with one another and the land around us.
On the back, This shirt incorporates Native Australian flora, native to the Sydney region. The Scribbly Gum, a gum tree that grows in the shallow sandstone areas of Sydney (you'll often see them on your way down to the crag). The scribbles in the gum trees are made by moths grubs from the genus Ogmograptis, telling a story of the life cycle of this insect. The Flannel flower is an iconic symbol that represents elegance, beauty, and purity. A flower that grows across NSW and some regions of QLD. (You can see them growing alongside the scribbly gums!)
The rainbow serpent, responsible for giving life, is one of the great powerful forces of nature and spirit. It has life-giving powers that send spirits to waterholes, symbolising a thriving community and the close connection between people, land and water. Ability to renew life by shedding the skin and emerging anew
The little climbers are representative of how we all weave into this beautiful creation of life. They also give earth spirit vibes.
